WHEN I’M NOT WORKING

Here’s what I do to scratch the exploration itch and inspire creativity.

FISH

Smallmouth, largemouth, rainbow, calico, yellowtail, wahoo, mahi, blackfin—I’m not picky. Living in the Ozarks makes chasing bronzebacks and bucketmouths easy—wading or kayaking remote creeks is my fave. But I’ll never pass up a chance to troll for wahoo in the Keys or chase yellowtail around the Coronado Islands in Baja.

ART

I don’t consider myself an artist. Creative, yes. Artist, not quite. But I sure do appreciate the talents of real artists and love supporting them whenever possible. From personal friends like Jeremy Manning and Scott Sauer, and local artists like Janesko and CatCoq. To the more well known like Georgia O’keefe, Dale Chihuly and Shepard Fairey. I’m inspired by it all.

TRAVEL

It started my junior year of high school with a trip to Paris with the French Club. And continued into college with the most epic road trip out west and a mission trip to Honduras. As an adult, the wanderlust continues—only now in #vanlife style with my campervan. I’m hoping to add overlanding to my list of adventurous travel methods soon.

Food

I’ve often thought that if I had it to do all over again, I might try my hand at being a chef. I LOVE creative food. I’m down for fine dining or food trucks—so long as the food is intentional and inventive. My #1 bucketlist restaurant is Alinea. When I’m keeping it simple, those that know me best know I will fight you over the best apple variety (Pink Lady). And when it comes to cereal, I’ve never met one I didn’t like.

drink

Similar to my obsession with good food, I’m also a big fan of drinks made with the same attention to detail. Craft cocktails, hard ciders or Cuban coffee, I’m here for it. And if my second career as a chef doesn’t work out, I might try my hand as a mixologist or barista.

photography

If being a chef, mixologist or barista doesn’t work out, maybe I’ll be a photographer. I’m far from a pro, but I really enjoy creating images with my “real” camera. In fact, all the background images used throughout this website are images I’ve captured. Even when I’m not behind the camera, I can absolutely appreciate the skill needed to make photographic magic.
